“Keeping the Faith,” Ft. Myers 2012

In 1943, a Seventh-Day Adventist named George Gruesbeck put up this sign at his Ft. Myers house on the corner of McGregor Boulevard and Grove Avenue. For over 70 years, the sign came with the house. In the 1950s the owner removed the sign from the front yard only to quickly reinstall it after public outcries. In the early 1990s, the owner accepted donations to keep the sign lit, but electrical problems in 1996 made the sign dark again. In 2013, community leaders, philanthropists and a sign business stepped up to save the sign. They separated the electric service of the sign from the home in foreclosure and made the necessary repairs to not only save the sign, but reinstate its neon green glow. There are two paintings featuring this sign. The other one is entitled: God Is Love.
