“Cypress Lace,” Naples, 2011

When the noble Cypress trees start to leaf out in the Spring, their delicate, bright green color creates what I call “Cypress Lace.” It’s like you’re under a giant fine-tooled doily tent—all green, new and sparkling—supported by grayed and textured tree trunks proudly stretching overhead and offering something akin to being in a Greek wedding. The best place to see the spectacle is at Corkscrew Swamp, but look for the lace in March or April throughout the state.
