Slip sliding away, slip sliding away. You know the nearer your destination, the more you’re slip sliding away.” That’s the song I hear when I’m out on the airboat and the clouds are visible in the shallow waters of the River of Grass. The wind is loud and the sun is hot and I can literally see the billowy clouds kissing the raspy grasses. Most of the time I was out there for my job—helping leaders learn what was at stake without Everglades restoration. It was all so thrillingly beautiful I still can’t believe that when the money was flowing we actually had to make a case for its survival. It was surreal, slip sliding away on an airboat lilting over incredible clouds in globally significant waters. As Simon says, “Whoah God only knows, God makes his plan.
