“No one ever wins,” Ft. White 2012

At Itchetucknee Springs State Park near Gainesville, there is a nature walk down to Blue Hole — one of the varied spring heads within the park. While walking this path one early spring morning I couldn’t get a line from Ed Carlson out of my head. It was part of his Annual Appeal for the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary’s Birdathon, and as the Sanctuary’s Director, he was reminding us all what spring in Florida is about: “All the plants in the swamp celebrate by competing for the most beautiful shade of green. The variations are endless and no one ever wins. But the effect on human observers is purely inspirational.”
