“Lake Jackson Afternoon,” Tallahassee 2010

While looking at Edward Hopper’s Cape Cod Morning, a docent at the National Portrait Gallery told me that she overheard a father asking his five year old son, “What do you think she’s looking at?” Although the docent couldn’t hear his reply, we all marveled about what a great question it was to ask a child. It really doesn’t matter. A resolution would no doubt ruin the painting for me. Case in point, I was on hand when my dear friend walked into Lake Jackson waiting for the sun to set one late afternoon; and, I don’t know what she was looking at. She probably didn’t either.
